SmartCamp is an exclusive global event bringing together entrepreneurs, investors and experienced mentors who want to build a Smarter Planet. SmartCamp provides selected startups access to world-class advisors plus a direct route to seed and venture capital.

The winner of SmartCamp New York will take part in a three-month mentorship with IBM. And the winner will be invited to attend the SmartCamp World Finals where one business will be named the "IBM Global Entrepreneur of the Year".

5 Finalists will be selected for a one-day event (June 28) to network with 25 world-class entrepreneurs, investors, and industry experts.

The New York winner will be selected from the pitch finale June 29th.

Andy Parsons is an innovative technology leader with 15+ years experience in software architecture, product delivery, and the business of entrepreneurial software and service companies. He is the CTO of Bookish, LLC - a disruptive media venture currently in stealth mode. He is also the owner of Andonica Technology Consulting, providing software development management consulting, and technical project management to technology investors, startups, and fortune 500 companies. He also served as the CTO of Outside.in and Digital Railroad, Inc. and was the vice president of software development at ExchangePath.

Ashley Heather is a digital commerce entrepreneur and one of the pioneers at the intersection of ecommerce, social interaction and location-aware services. His companies include Musikube and Entertainment Media Works, which brought us StarStyle, StyleLogue and Plinking—in 2004, among the first Social Commerce websites. In his native London, he was the lead digital consultant at Impact Plus and an executive at Ford Motor Company. He is a frequent speaker at media industry events, including iBreakfast, CTIA Wireless, The Digital Coast Roundtable, MoMeMo, Social Media Week and is an Associate Member of IADAS.

Avi Fogel is a principal at Majorlee Investment Corp, an asset management firm based in NYC, investing in private equity angel investment, public technology companies and income generating investments. Avi is also an active member in two angel groups - New York Angels, the largest angel group in New York, and Launchpad Venture Group of Boston. Prior to the current role Avi was an Exec-In-Residence at American Capital Strategies, the chairman and CEO at ProActivity, Inc, which he sold to EMC in mid-2006, and a Venture Partner at Infinity Venture Capital.

Bernard Gershon is the President of GershonMedia, a global digital media strategy practice. He currently serves on the Advisory Boards of several venture-backed companies including: Boxee, Fwix, Panvidea, The Juno Companies, LiveHiveSystems. He was formerly Senior Vice President and General Manager of Corporate Strategy, Business Development and Technology at The Walt Disney Company. He was responsible for developing new digital businesses and was instrumental in delivering Disney/ABC content, including “High School Musical”, “Desperate Housewives” and “Lost” to the Sprint mobile video service in 2007. He also launched and distributed the 24-hour ABC News channel, ABC News Now, to new digital platforms including digital cable, broadband and VOD. In 1999, Bernard joined ABCNEWS.com as Vice President and General Manager. Under his leadership, ABCNEWS.com marked several important milestones— its first two years of profitability and numerous prestigious awards for online journalism.

Beth Ferreira is currently the founder of Startcraft and is a consultant and advisor to early-stage companies. Prior to Startcraft, Beth was Vice President of Finance and Operations and an early employee at Etsy, Inc. , the leading online marketplace for all things handmade. Prior to joining Etsy, Beth was a member of the investment team at Flatiron Partners. During her tenure, she supported the partners as the portfolio grew to 57 investments. She also held positions at The Boston Consulting Group, advising media, consumer and technology clients on critical strategic and operational challenges and began her career as an investment banker in the financial sponsor coverage group at Union Bank of Switzerland. Beth holds a bachelors degree from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the Wharton School.

Beth Schoenfeldt has been a friend and mentor to entrepreneurs around the world for over ten years, contributing to the launch of thousands of businesses. Beth has successfully launched three profitable businesses and is currently working on a new venture. Due to her reputation as a forward thinker and expert on starting and growing businesses, some of the world's top media outlets rely on Beth for her insights into the latest trends among entrepreneurs and small business. Beth has been featured in outlets including Time Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Elle Magazine, the Today Show, Pink Magazine, and MSNBC. In 2010 Beth received the14th Annual Distinguished Alumnae Award presented by Columbia Business School and Columbia Women in Business.

Brian Cohen created iFluence PR a strategic behavioral-based communications consultancy for the new earned influence/social media community. He developed Good Cause Communications, the first full-service not-for-profit PR firm. He also founded GlobalComm/TSI (Technology Solutions, Inc.) in 1983. TSI was the first science and technology strategic marketing and public relations agency in New York and one of the first such specialists in the United States. In 1996, TSI was recognized as the #1 fastest growing public relations agency. It was sold to The McCann Erickson World Group (Interpublic Group) in 1997. Additionally, Brian started Focus Technology, a Focus Group company that provided qualitative research and beta site utilization services. Brian provided all development and moderating support. Before launching TSI, Brian was a founding publisher of Computer Systems News and InformationWeek magazine at CMP Publications.

Bruce Lincoln is an educational technologist, a design scientist and a multimedia designer/developer. Bruce was the first Ford Fellow in Educational Technology in the country. He was engaged in advanced multimedia research, design and development at the Center for Children and Technology/ National Center for Technology in Education at Bank Street College of Education, the Interactive Technology Group at Children's Television Workshop and the Center for Urban Youth and Technology, Institute for Urban and Minority Education, Teachers College, Columbia University. Bruce served as the Director of Educational Technologies at Playing To Win, Inc.'s Harlem Community Computing Center where he developed, funded and managed a state-of-the art public access multimedia telecommunications learning center which was recognized as a national model for equitable access to advanced technologies for underserved communities.

Calvin Chu. Prior to joining Columbia Technology Ventures, Calvin Chu was co-founder of Mobile Crossing (acquired 2007), an innovative Silicon Valley-based handheld computer company specializing in global positioning systems (GPS), tourism, agriculture, survey and military applications. He has also taken part in Optimal Networks (acquired 2000, Compuware) and FlyteComm. Since relocating from the Bay Area to New York City, Calvin has joined the budding startup culture of NYC's Silicon Alley. In addition, Calvin also consulted for large corporations like Goldman Sachs, PSE&G and Williams Energy. At Columbia Technology Ventures, Calvin oversees Columbia University's computer technology intellectual property portfolio. The portfolio consists of nearly 1000 distinct pieces of IP representing over a decade of innovation from one of the nation's top research institutions.

Charles Crockett is a founding Partner of Ascend. Prior to the formation of Ascend, Charles was a Director of The Beacon Group, a New York-based private investment and advisory firm that manages more than $2.0 billion in private equity capital. He was also the first Associate hired by The Beacon Group and spent six years evaluating, structuring and monitoring investments in a variety of industries. Charles spent approximately three years at Goldman Sachs in the Structured Finance Group with experience in independent power financings, leveraged lease financings, partnership financings, project financings and private placements. He currently serves as a director of AEP Networks Inc and is also a member of the Stanford Law School Board of Visitors and the State Bar of California. Charles received a Juris Doctor degree from Stanford Law School and a Bachelor of Science from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Constance Knapp is a higher education professional with over 25 years of experience teaching and developing courses for all educational levels in information technology. She has over eight years of experience at a director/dean level, with seven years as a co-director of the Pforzheimer Faculty Development Center (2002) and 2 1/2 years as Interim Dean. Additionally, she has over 15 years of industry experience (prior to joining higher education) as a programmer, systems analyst, business analyst and manager. She received a BS from SUNY - New Paltz, an MBA from Fordham University, and an M. Phil. and Ph. D. from the City University of New York.

Dave Barrett is a general partner at Polaris Venture Partner who brought over 20 years of experience as an operating executive & entrepreneur in 2000. He focuses on seed, early & expansion stage investment opportunities in technology. Dave is experienced in on-demand and internet software business models, with particular background in SaaS, Cloud, Financial and Healthcare technologies. He currently represents Polaris on the boards of Confluence, Egnyte, CatchFree,Imprivata, MarkMonitor, Phytel, and VKernel. Prior to joining Polaris, he served as chief operating officer of Calico Commerce. During his leadership, the company evolved from venture-backed startup to one of the top-performing IPOs of 1999 with market value in excess of $3.5B. In addition to his Polaris portfolio company boards, he also serves on the Microsoft Venture Capital Advisory Board, the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) Private Equity Board, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Board of Trustees. Dave is both an Always-On Venture Capital 100 and Venture Capital 50 recipient, recognizing returns performance over the last five years.

Diana Propper de Callejon has been working in private equity and sustainability for more than ten years with a focus on identifying investment opportunities that deliver financial returns and environmental benefits. Diana is a General Partner at Expansion Capital Partners, a venture capital firm that invests in expansion stage, Clean Technology enterprises in energy, transportation, water, advanced materials, and manufacturing and industrial processes. Prior to Expansion Capital, Diana was a co-founder and Managing Director of EA Capital, where she worked with Fortune 500 companies, financial institutions, private equity investors and foundations to identify new business and investment opportunities related to resource efficiency and productivity. Clients included the International Finance Corporation, Ted Turner, Duke Energy, PacifiCorp and the MacArthur Foundation. Diana has been a frequent conference speaker and has written on the venture capital opportunities in Clean Technology and the environment for such publications as Morgan Stanley's Investor Outlook and Sustainable Business Investor. Diana has also worked at McKinsey & Co. She has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Duke University.

Jason Olim is the founder and CEO of CDNOW (NASDAQ:CDNW) and as a member of public and private company boards, he raised venture, debt and public capital; he acquired and merged with other companies; and took his company private through a sale to Bertelsmann, the third largest media company in the world. In his various roles, he hired management teams, developed strategic plans and acted as spokesman to the media. A graduate of Brown University with a degree in computer science, Olim worked for two years at Soft-Switch, designing software systems for multinational corporations. Olim founded CDNOW in February of 1994, and became a highly recognized Internet entrepreneur. He has earned Entrepreneur of the Year awards from various organizations, including the Small Business Association, Arthur Andersen and the Greater Philadelphia Venture Group.


Justin Day is the CTO of Blip.tv, where he manages software development and oversees the design and implementation of the company's private label software licensing partnerships. Before blip.tv, Justin was the lead ASP.NET 2.0 developer at Capital Printing, Inc., building Web applications to take the company paperless. In 2002, he co-founded the consulting firm Persite Communications, which develops custom solutions for retail stores for point of sale, surveillance and music systems. He also worked with Western Union to develop software connecting customers to the SwiftPay system. Before Persite, Justin worked at the California-based Arrigoni and Associates, where he led a team working to create a linux-based security appliance simple enough for an AOL user to manage. As a side project, in 2002 Justin and blip.tv co-founder and CEO Mike Hudack developed Blogfoot, the first mobile blogging system to support SprintPCS phone-to-blog picture sharing.

Kirill Sheynkman is a three-time CEO and founder of software companies (two exits, two acquisitions, one IPO) backed by Sequoia, Hummer Winblad, Bay Partners, and Amazon, in various combinations. Prior companies include Stanford Technology Group (acquired, Informix 1995) -- a relational OLAP server for doing advanced analytics on relational databases, Plumtree software (public, acquired BEA Systems) -- the world's first corporate portal, and Elastra (private) -- a cloud computing infrastructure company. Between companies, Kirill was an EIR at Sequoia Capital. He is a technologist (CS from Stanford) and a businessman (MBA from Berkeley) with Sand Hill roots and a New York state of mind. Kirill has dedicated himself to helping New York City companies with ideas, markets, technology, and fundraising. His mission is to build software and internet companies – a Silicon Alley that rivals Silicon Valley.


Mary McCaffrey is currently the Managing Director at Golden Seeds and Portfolio Manager at McCaffrey Asset Management, a private investment firm that she founded in 2007. Prior to this, she was a partner at Camelot Capitol, a technology hedge fund. For most of her career, Mary specialized in growth investing, specifically in information technology companies. This involvement included working with small start ups in advisory and board capacity, as well as larger technology companies. Mary was also a Technology Analyst for the investment bank, Alex Brown and the research firm, C.J. Lawrence. Mary has become increasingly involved in non-profit organizations. She is Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of the Yorkville Common Pantry, and Treasurer of the Board of Trustees at el Museo del Barrio, both based in New York City.

MaryMcAdory "Mac" Lipscomb was the Operating Partner of RRE. Mac's role was to manage many industry relationships and to drive the market visibility of the business to maximize the New York-area strategy. He is well-known in the venture community for his work as an executive coach to 400+ CEOs, including advising LivePerson's successful IPO road show and several venture investor events. He also brings extensive corporate management experience, and was with Accenture for nine years, most recently the Partner leading global marketing and communications for the Communications Industry Practice, as well as Global Outsourcing for the Communications and High Tech Industry operating group. Even though he is a Senior Fellow at the Annenberg School for the Digital Future at the University of Southern California, he lives in Connecticut.

Lipscomb was previously EVP of Showtime Networks, GM of Showtime Pay Per View and ran the global programming, sales, and marketing for WorldSpace -- the first global satellite direct radio broadcaster -- and led the joint venture strategy that created XM Satellite Radio.

Over his career he has worked on Capitol Hill and in presidential campaigns and holds an MBA from the University of Colorado, an MA in Speech Communications from Auburn University, and a BA from the University of Maryland, where he serves on the Board of Visitors for the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences.

Mike Geer is one of the founding members of the 100+ million member Badoo network. He now is working with WAYN, to expand social into the travel sphere. Although raised and educated in the states, he started with his Badoo co-founders working on various projects in the Russian market and then moved operations to London and launched badoo.com, where he spent most of his time setting up new markets for Badoo and supervising the continued success in more established countries. Badoo focuses on allowing users to meet new people in their local area. WAYN focuses on capturing members' dreams and then providing them ways to fulfill those dreams. Mike has stayed quite active around the startup/tech scene making sure his teams keep on top of the latest trends and technology for socializing worldwide.

Mike Grandinetti was CXO across 5 successful VC-backed start-ups, incl. 2 NASD IPOs and 5 trade sales (acquirers incl. AT&T, Iron Mountain,Oracle, Symantec) and previously served as consultant with McKinsey. He's Managing Director of Southboro Capital, as well as a member of several angel groups and has held a long affiliation with MIT as Sr. Lecturer and Judge in the MIT $100K. He's a mentor in Tech Stars, BetaSpring, Founders Institute and startupbootcamp and a mentor, judge & co-lead of the Cloud Computing Track in the Mass Challenge. He's Professor at the Hult International Business School & the Tech University of Denmark where he teaches entrepreneurship at the graduate and Exec Ed levels, an Academic Fellow at Sitekit Labs and serves on Rutgers Engineering Advisory Board. He's a frequent keynoter on topics incl. next generation business and GTM models, use of social media in B2B, cloud computing, connecting start-ups with early customers, going global and raising capital. He's a member of the Executive Board of WGBH Public TV, the flagship operation of PBS. He received an MBA from Yale where he was named Jess Morrow Johns Memorial Scholar and was awarded the P&G Marketing Leadership Award. He is a member of the National Engineering Honor Society.

Mitchell Manoff is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Corinthian Partners L.L.C. and Corinthian Partners Asset Management, L.L.C. As CEO of the firm, Mr. Manoff manages the Firm's efforts in the Corporate Finance Department; focusing on Energy and Digital Media. Mr. Manoff also manages the Firm's Broker-Dealer and RIA Departments. He manages select family office and high net worth accounts. He is a 30-year veteran of Wall Street. For the last eight years prior to founding the firm, Mr. Manoff was a Senior Vice President of Investments at Lehman Brothers. Mr. Manoff received his B.S. and B.A. from Boston University and M.B.A. from Baruch College, where he teaches a course in Entrepreneurial Studies and New Business Development.

Mobeen Khan has 15 years experience in senior operational roles providing strategic and financial planning in technology related businesses. Mobeen has also worked in product management for new technology rollouts including concept, development and marketing. Mobeen was the former CEO of Inzigo, a software company providing natural language technology for speech recognition applications. Prior to that, he was with the telecommunications and e-commerce practice of Mitchell Madison Group, a global strategy-consulting firm. Before that, he was part of the initial management team at LinkShare, an e-commerce software and service venture, as Vice President of Business Development. Mobeen started his career at BellSouth Wireless Data (now Cingular) in various capacities, including product management, strategic planning, operations and marketing. He has an MBA from Columbia Business School in Finance and Management, MSEE in Communications Engineering and BSEE in Computer Engineering from Rutgers University.

Peggy Wallace, General Partner of the Golden Seeds Fund, is the Portfolio Manager for Golden Seeds. Peggy's 20 + year career prior to becoming an investor was in financial services. The majority of her career was with J.P. Morgan/Chase where she specialized in structured finance, risk management, and financial services M&A. Peggy retains a board position with private company Chromis Fiberoptics and gDiapers. She holds a B. A. from The George Washington University.

Peter Bordes is a Founder, CEO and Chairman of the Board of MediaTrust. Previously, he spent much of his career in banking and venture capital and was a founder of Mason Cabot investment bank, which specialized in early stage media and technology financing. Mr. Bordes was also a founder and chairman of the board of Empire Media, Inc., a publishing, marketing, and technology enterprise which incubated and founded Find.com, the first ""True Business Search"" engine, and of Advaliant, an online performance marketing platform. Currently, Mr. Bordes is an investor, serves on the boards of, or is an adviser to a number of traditional, new media, and technology companies, such as: Internet Media Labs, PeekYou.com, Twylah.com, MRQE.com/FlickTweets, AdventureUS.com, Roomlinx Inc., jiwire, and Greater Media Inc. Peter is also a Founding Charter Member and on the Board of Directors of the Performance Marketing Association (PMA).

Raj Beri is a senior digital media executive with a proven track record of increasing digital revenues and driving online engagement. Currently he is the Director and COO of IgoUgo, an online travel planning and content site that was acquired by Travelocity. In this role he oversees operations, strategy, business development and product functions. Prior to this he served as Director of Global Digital Strategy at the McGraw-Hill companies where he focused on driving forward the companies' digital publishing and media businesses. Raj also was a leader in the digital media practice of management consulting firm The Monitor Group where he led projects for multiple Fortune 500 media companies. He is an industry expert in digital strategies, online advertising and cloud computing and a veteran freelance journalist in the media and entertainment space. Raj received his MBA from the Wharton School of Business and lives in New York City.

Sara Holoubek is the CEO & founder of Luminary Labs, a strategy & innovation consultancy. She has worked with a broad range of clients to make key business transformation decisions, including Sanofi-Aventis, LexisNexis, BMW, Texas Instruments, startups Clickable, Conductor, drop.io and Symposia Group. Previously, Ms. Holoubek served as iCrossing's Chief Strategy Officer, building the firm's New York office and helping to raise an early VC round of $13 million. Prior to this experience, Ms. Holoubek held strategy roles with interactive agencies Organic and Blue Dingo. From 2009-2010, Ms. Holoubek served as the President of the Search Engine Marketing Professionals Organization (SEMPO) board of directors. She also serves on the New York Board of Directors of the Step Up Women's Network. She holds a B.A. from the University of Iowa and an M.B.A. from HEC in France. She resides in New York City with her husband, bass-baritone Claudio Mascarenhas.

Sridhar Ramasubbu is CFO of International Operations for Wipro Technologies, a leading global IT services company with a market cap of $30 billion, providing software and hardware solutions to fortune 1000 clients worldwide. Sridhar joined Wipro in 1989 in their Systems Engineering Division and moved to International Operations in 1991 as founding member of the R&D business. He was instrumental in pioneering the concept of Global Development Center for Wipro in India and drove the business for strong growth and profitability as CFO. Post Wipro's listing in the NYSE bourses (WIT), Sridhar took additional charge of the Investor Relations function for the Americas. He has recently taken an expanded role to cover all International Operations of Wipro. Sridhar has represented the company and the industry in various forums, speaking at conferences including Silicon Valley Technology & Leadership forum, Darden Business School, Asia Business Conference, etc. Sridhar completed his Engineering and Management education from B.I.T.S Pilani in 1982 and has over 28 years of rich industry experience.

Ted Rubin has had a deep online background beginning in 1997 working with Seth Godin at Yoyodyne, which was acquired in Q4 1998 by Yahoo! In December 2009, he became a member of OpenSky's Board of Advisors, and as its Chief Social Marketing Officer, he took an active day-to-day role building their social media presence, engaging and interacting with the blogging community, and working with other potential partners in the media and publishing communities. On May 1st, he announced leaving OpenSky and accepted the Chief Social Marketing Officer position at Collective Bias, a company he closely worked with for two years since meeting the Founder, John Andrews through the blogging community. He serves on the Advisory board of Shespeaks.com and Collective Bias and advises Big Fuel Communications and Zuberance on their social marketing strategy. He is a native New Yorker and a graduate of Cornell University.


Veronika Sonsev is the CEO and Founder of inSparq.com, a social communication company. She is also the Co-Chair and Founder of Women in Wireless. In her 12-year career as a business development and strategy executive for AOL and Jumptap, Veronika has built new business lines, developed strategic partnerships and launched international markets. Veronika earned an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in Economics from American University. She serves on the advisory boards of Jumptap, Thinkstreams and Pocket Hurricane.

Vinay Bassi is the Vice President and Global Head of Corporate Development and Mergers and Acquisitions at Avaya Inc. He has led over 25 strategic acquisitions globally that created significant value and growth for Avaya, including Tenovis, Traverse, Enterprise assets of Nortel Networks, Ubiquity, Avaya Global Connect, Konftel and Spectel. He is a corporate development professional with experience in capital formation (public and private), mergers & acquisitions, venture capital, start-ups, and financial restructuring. Vinay also worked at Solomon Smith Barney, executing advisory assignments, offerings of equity (including for master limited partnerships), equity linked securities, fixed income offerings and debt private placements.

William Reinisch is the CEO & Founder of XIV River. He specializes in strategy and investments for the high tech industry. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at Stevens Institute of Technology. He was most recently the VP of Strategy & Technology with Motorola. In this role he was responsible for intellectual property standards and the corporate technology portfolio in addition to positioning Motorola for growth in emerging new market segments. Previously, he was VP of strategy and new initiatives and joined Motorola as a strategic advisor to the Chief Strategy Office. Prior to joining Motorola he was SVP of operations & engineering at Magnolia Broadband, where he led engineering and operations for the company. Before that, he led the global technology organization at Multilink Technology Corporation, a company focused on high-speed solutions for advanced optical networks. He has authored several publications, presentations, three US patents and several patent applications. He earned an MBA from Fordham University and a B.S. from Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T.)
