Gauntlet (gaunt·let)
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French gauntelet

Definition : an open challenge -- used in phrases like throw down the gauntlet

At the heart of The Hatchery’s model is the Gauntlet, an interactive process that gives entrepreneurs seven minutes to present their business models to a range of investors, followed by a 15-minute Q&A session.

Think of it as “American Idol meets Venture Capital.”

How it works

The egg timer starts and you have 7 minutes to give your best pitch to an audience of more than 100, including a five-person expert panel comprised of attorneys, financiers, accountants, technologists, and investors. This is unlike any other forum in New York because it allows entrepreneurs to reach a diverse group of influential leaders who can play a role in helping their companies succeed. Your focus should be on the following areas:

  1. Problem/Solution (What we solve)
  2. Market (Customer description, market size)
  3. Industry/Competition (Supply chain, competitors, etc.)
  4. Operations (What we do/how we do it)
  5. Financials (Key assumptions, financial growth targets or customer targets, etc.)
  6. Team (Who are we)

If you want to run the gauntlet, fill out an online form here.
Please submit a powerpoint presentation into the system as well.
A 7 minute short video of you presenting would also be helpful.
This is mandatory for companies not based in New York.
